Series name: World of Warcraft (Original Character)
Canon notes: His timeline is shortly before the launch of Warlords of Draenor.

Species: Blood elf

History: Kirian was born in Quel'thalas, nearly 1250 years ago, to a small and relatively lower-class family (his father was named Dellan and was a tailor by trade, his mother, Allide, was a mage). As a child, his closest friend was a girl named Veilyaa Flameheart- it was assumed by their parents, but never formally agreed on, that they would eventually marry. Kirian lived in the forests for many years, and dreamed of being a city guard.

Kirian became a Spellbreaker (Spellbreakers being an elite half-mage half-warrior class) sometime before the Second War. When the Horde attacked their human allies, the High Elves hesitated but finally lended their strength to the Alliance after the Horde invaded their lands. During the war, Kirian served as a messenger. He spent a short time among the humans, and befriended some of them. Namely, the woman Nel Harrington became a close friend, and Kirian enjoyed her company (she had a black cat named Soot. Though this cat is long dead, Kirian has named his current cat after hers). The other human Kirian was relatively close to was Simon Hargraves, an Alliance footsoldier. Kirian was quite in love with him, though he never acted on these feelings and it was entirely one-sided.

With a heavy heart, Kirian returned to Quel'thalas following the war and began to push his friends away- especially Veilyaa, who he was now no longer content to marry. He was still mostly kind, if not a bit distant, but that would soon change. Kirian was guarding Silvermoon City when Arthas and the Death Knights attacked.

Kirian fought valiantly to defend his homeland, but was attacked by a ghoul and his right leg was seriously wounded. Unfortunately, as there was severe muscle damage and infection set in, the healers were unable to save it. Kirian lost his leg, and though he was able to have a prosthesis crafted, he was left with a rather pronounced limp.

Knowing he would never be able to wear heavy armor or the massive shield he wielded as a Spellbreaker, Kirian turned to studying the arcane arts and found he had a knack for it. It was something to do, something to study, and Kirian spent the next years slowly amassing more knowledge and practicing his magic. Kirian grew quite bitter about life and those close to him, having lost both his parents and the dream he had worked so hard for.

During this time, Prince Kael'thas' advisor, Grand Magister Rommath, returned to share with the elves the techniques of draining magic from demons to sate their addiction to magic. Though many disagreed with these methods (Kirian's cousin Ryel included), Kirian saw them as a means to an end.

Reformed as a Blood Elf, Kirian trusted Prince Kael'thas almost blindly. It was Kael'thas' fall that pushed Kirian to leave Quel'thalas and settle in the floating city of Dalaran. He made a living here renting a very small home (like an effiency apartment) and running a tailoring business out of it. Kirian worked with the Kirin Tor and Sunreavers (though more closely with the Sunreavers) as a researcher, developing new magic techniques.

During his stay in Dalaran, he started a friendship with a Blood Knight, Raziel Sunsworn. Raziel proved to be very good for Kirian- he was a friend who demanded little of him and was very rarely upset by Kirian's overall crankiness. Kirian occasionally returned to Silvermoon City to do small odd jobs for the Magisters there- as he was not officially a Magister, but in their pocket, he was often sent to complete tasks they could not, officially.

It was during one such task- a Magister named Norrin Lightflare had gone power hungry and rather mad- that Kirian encountered the Paladin, Alerion Lightward. and his wife, Radra. Radra pushed Kirian to discover what hold the Magister had over her husband, and when confronted, Magister Lightflare attempted to kill Kirian. Knowing he could not defeat him with magic, Kirian protected himself with defensive spells and fatally stabbed Lightflare with the spellblade he kept concealed in his cane. Unfortunately for Kirian, Alerion considered himself in Kirian's debt.

Kirian returned to Dalaran and to his work for the Sunreavers. He visited the Caverns of Time to obtain some sand for his work with Time Magic.

From here, Kirian was pulled into the world of Exsilium, in a future timeline of Earth. Kirian lived with another blood elf, Adrasteius Bloodspeaker, and Adra's apprentice, Belthazar Spellscry. Kirian didn't exactly get along with either of them, though he was quietly thankful to be around other Blood Elves, and not humans. Kirian started a friendship with another apparent elf, Vanadi, who he frequently shared bloodthistle cigarettes with.

When plague struck Exsilium, Kirian fell ill and crawled off to die. Adra dragged him to the clinic, and there Kirian ran into Catsovi. Catsovi, not forgetting the man who had verbally slighted him on the network, nearly assaulted Kirian, who reached for his cane and the blade hidden within. Catsovi took control of Kirian's body, forcing him to hand over the cane, before leaving after seeing the blade within. Kirian, afterward, didn't sleep for a few days until Vanadi came to see him. During this time, Belthazar returned home.

Shortly afterward, Kirian volunteered to handle administrative affairs at the clinic Adrasteius ran, and he started up his own tailoring shop. Things were going well enough until he was attacked in his home by someone looking for Adrasteius. He went to the clinic to recover.

A few weeks later, Kirian and others were kidnapped by the United Earth and experimented on, their powers copied and placed into clones that were meant to be used as soldiers to by the United Earth. Kirian and the others were rescued, and the puppetmaster behind it all, Castovi, was dealt with.

Shortly after this, Adrasteius returned home. Kirian continued to organize the clinic as much as he could, and fled to the moon when Exsilium was nuked by the United Earth.

There he remained for roughly one month, before returning to Azeroth.

After his return, Raziel purchased a new home, and Kirian begun to spend more time with him, before Raziel's disappearance to Pandaria. When Raziel returned, he and Kirian grew apart, and Kirian realized that Raziel didn't care for him anymore- Raziel was too busy off chasing glory to settle down.

Shortly after word of the new land of Pandaria arrived, Dalaran was purged of blood elves by the ruling archmage, Lady Jaina Proudmoore. Kirian managed to escape with help from Veilyaa, and the two returned to Silvermoon. Kirian, angry with the humans, finally accepted a position as a proper Magister and set to helping to train new Spellbreakers, focusing mainly on training them in magical defense.

He also furthered his ties with the bronze dragonflight, and after the Spellbreakers were deployed on the Isle of Thunder, Kirian left for the Barrens, to aid in undermining Garrosh Hellscream's war machine. He met with Veilyaa here, and together they destroyed supply depots and stole supplies to aid the rebellion.

He finally took his work with the bronze dragons to the limit he could go to and joined the Timewalkers- a group of mortals that were given the task of defending the timelines against any tampering. He was sent to the Timeless Isle off of the coast of Pandaria with most of the Timewalkers, to investigate the island that seemed to exist outside of traditional time (for example, the sun never sets).

And then he was pulled back into Exsilium, roughly a day having passed on the moon between his return home and his re-arrival. Kirian didn't run very many missions, save for one trip to Disney, but he started a friendship with a newly arrived Blood Elf, Rynlan Dawnslight. Rynlan came to work at the clinic, and the two became friends- Kirian seeing much in Rynlan that he agreed with, himself. When people began to return to the surface of Earth, amid winter, Kirian and Rynlan secured housing for themselves in the city.

Kirian returned shortly thereafter, pulled back to Azeroth. He settled in Quel'thalas again, and decided that it was time to make something of himself. He joined up with The Sunguard, a military organization that was more of an independent military force devoted to protecting Quel'thalas. Kirian was a cold, aloof man at first, but tried to push himself to go on missions.

And then he met Lord Varaelian Nilhandril. Varaelian was a widower, and a medic, and Kirian was drawn to him. Together, they were two lonely people, and they began a relationship. Between missions and work, they eventually began to live together, bringing in another friend, Elleynah. Elleynah was like a little sister to Kirian, and his life seemed almost idyllic. The occasionally taught time magic classes to the other mages and warlocks.

Varaelian, a skilled engineer, crafted a new prosthetic for Kirian, one that would allow him better balance and the ability to wear armor again and run. Kirian had thought he would never be able to return to Spellbreaking, but he found himself having his dream back. He began to teach Spellbreaking to the warriors and paladins of The Sunguard, and took a younger warrior under his wing.

Shortly thereafter, he asked Varaelian to marry him. The two were engaged in secret, telling only Elleynah of their plans.

After an extended mission into troll territory, Kirian returned to the Nilhandril manor and set to handling the manor's books and accounts, and was learning to apply his arcane knowledge to Varaelian's engineering. He returned to the field after Varaelian was injured in combat and lost his arm, and crafted him a prosthetic limb much like the one Varaelian had made for him.

Personality: Kirian is a self-professed "boring man", but is definitely an example that still waters run deep. Outwardly he is calm, often polite, and generally cold in his dealings with other people. He has been described as "aloof" by other people, and that definitely suits him. He is certainly not one to hesitate in telling someone if he feels they are being foolish. Actually, the more he knows someone, the more blunt and brusque he generally is. Very few consider Kirian to be "friends", and to those he can be most hurtful of all.

Underneath the prickly exterior is a deep sadness and anger toward those who have wronged him (and the Sin'dorei, as a whole). However, Kirian does not allow it to consume him, and instead uses it to be a driving force for him, a sense of purpose.

The truth of Kirian, and the reason his childhood friend and sister hold on and don't simply leave him be, is that he was much different when he was younger. Kirian was naive until he left Quel'thalas for the first time, and was a generally hopeful and kind person. War changed him. Losing the life he knew changed him. He's begun to get that man back in small amounts, but he will never be truly happy and carefree again, most likely.

For many years, Kirian wished to stay beyond the Horde and Alliance conflict- the opinion he has that he will never voice is that he wishes to withdraw away from the Horde and Alliance and return to the time of the Sunstrider reigns when the elves were largely cut off from the outside world. Recent events in Dalaran have led him to re-evaluate his stance, and though he doesn't truly side with the Horde, he's devoted to protecting his homeland above all else.

Regarding other elves, Kirian finds himself most at home among them compared to the other races. However, the reason he has lived in Dalaran for so long is that he detests the political environment of Silvermoon City, and the superficiality of life there. He sees the Magisters are largely conniving and knows that joining their ranks will tie him down further to Silvermoon City. In truth, he seems himself in them a bit too much. He can be as cold and calculating as any Magister. Having been a guard, Kirian largely wishes to protect the other elves, or those close to him, though he will never admit this to anyone, and is not the type to be overt about it.

Though his is physically disabled, Kirian does not feel any shame for being "broken" or anything like that. He was injured fighting to save his homeland- to him, there is no way to be injured that is more noble or worthwhile. He does hate it, however, when someone pities him or feels that he needs their assistance simply because he is disabled. He pushes himself to prove that he can accomplish as much as anyone else.

Kirian is, largely, a dour man whose first instinct is to frown at something until it goes away. He does have his moments of kindness, however. He has been known to drag people home from bars before and let them sleep it off safely in his bed and then kick them out the next morning. His off-putting personality is something he is completely aware of- he never wonders why people might wish to not be in his company. Quite the contrary, he is usually ill-tempered to push people away on purpose. Were he a controlling man, he would be more of an antagonist to people, but he generally does not care what other people do with their lives, so long as they leave him be. That doesn't stop him from telling them what he thinks, just to be contrary, or for poking fun at them for making a fool of themselves.

As of his current canonpoint, Kirian is more likely to associate with people, and to pledge himself to a cause. Though he's not overly fond of humans, he will work with them if he must. The only thing he really, truly detests are the undead. He feels much regret for the years he spent away from everything, and he feels, now, like he ought to put his skills to use and help Azeroth.

He enjoys his cat, Soot (named in Common), being alone, quiet people, tea, bloodthistle, fish, dragons, studying, working, good booze, afternoon naps, his sister and friends (try as he might to dislike them). He greatly dislikes children, cheerful people, people who expect personal things of him, politicians, Magisters, people getting touchy-feely with him (though he has no problem with physical contact- when it's meant to be emotional, he detests it), strong shows of emotion, and phoenixes.

Abilities: Kirian is both a mage and a Spellbreaker, and can use the abilities alternately.

As a Spellbreaker, he can control and nullify magic around him, and is immune to magic damage. He can take enchantments off of enemies and apply them to allies, and I play him as being able to do vice versa.

As a mage, Kirian is specialized in light arcane magic (arcane explosions, blasts of arcane evergy that cause low to medium damage). His speciality, however, is time magic. He can warp the flow of time and travel through time if need be. In Drift Fleet, this will be restricted to using his magic to "rewind" people a few minutes and return them to a state before they were harmed, and to give himself and his allies haste (speed them up in time a little bit) or to slow time around an enemy to make their movements slightly slower.
Augment Skillset: Security!
Sample:
He can remember days after the fever broke, as he limped into the city, sweating from exertion and his sister begging him to stop, to go back home. But he had to go, he had to see, for himself, the city rebuilt. He had to know that Kael'thas, their prince, had returned to them.

To know that all hope was not lost.

And for what?

Had they failed him? Or had he failed them? It was difficult to truly say. And it was difficult to think that perhaps the rumors had been true about his final demise, in the Magister's Terrace.

His prince. He couldn't always justify everything that had been done- Nether knew he hated the abuse of power that the Magisters enjoyed while they ruled the city.

And yet, could Kirian truly say he could have done any better? Could any of them honestly say that there was no point that Kael'thas truly cared for them? Perhaps it was blind foolishness to believe so. But men rarely met such dramatic ends for things they didn't believe in.

And after all, they had survived with his help, didn't they?

Kirian takes a drink. He looks back down at his tea, thinking for a moment. A drake had asked him once if he would change his past, if he could. Kirian had known how to answer, but the truth of it is that he wouldn't. He was an old fool now, but better for some things. He didn't believe his suffering to be divine, simply that he saw things differently, now. And perhaps that was better.

He'd rather be the man he knows than a stranger, he thinks.

How's My Driving

Hi hello thank u let me know.  You can also ping me here, OOCly.
timewalking: (Default)
OOC PREFERENCES:

•CONTACT METHOD: AIM - afterwits
•THREAD-JACKING: It's fine by me! Kirian, however, will not appreciate it (when does he appreciate anything).
•FOURTH WALLING / CANON PUNCTURE: I'd really rather not fourthwall, please.
•BACKTAGGING: Anything newer than a week is good. Older than that, I've generally lost my train of thought. Ongoing threads for weeks is fine, just not so much about suddenly getting a tag after two weeks.
•AVOIDED TOPICS: I personally don't care for plots that use mental illness or inhumane treatments as a plot device. Handle it respectfully, and I'm fine, I just cannot stand "this guy's totally schizo let's lock him in a padded room lol".
•WARNINGS: Not much except for I guess…medical stuff?

IC CHARACTERISTICS:
•PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Kirian is tall, roughly 6’ 3”, and is rather slight. He used to be a bit more heavily built, but those days are far behind him now, and the heaviest thing he lifts is a book anymore. His hair is light brown with a gold-ish tint to it where the light hits it. He is generally frowning or with a neutral expression on his face, and he has dark circles around his eyes from lack of sleep. He dresses well, in clothes that were clearly made to fit him, but his clothes are generally dark robes with little decoration save for embroidery.

He has no piercings, but he does have tattoos on his arms and legs. They generally look like abstract scrollwork, with runes scattered throughout the designs. These end at his shoulders and tops of his hands, and from his hip to his left foot. Very rarely does anyone see the extent of the tattooing of what remains of his right leg.

He walks with a rather pronounced limp, and uses a cane with a gold tip and a simple gold knob handle. Those paying close attention would note a small catch on the handle of his cane- there is a dagger within it. The shaft is purple-black wood, dubiously acquired and those sensitive to magic would be able to sense it’s been tainted with power, somehow.
•DEMEANOR: Kirian generally appears aloof, and the more someone attempts to bring him close, the harder he pushes away.  He is a fair bit friendlier than when he first arrived, though, and given time and the chance, he'll generally come about on his own.  He can be cold and calculating, and cruel, when he feels it is necessary, and uses words like one might any other weapon. He enjoys solitude and indulging in his vices, and dislikes needy people, generally speaking. He can be a terribly practical man when he feels like it.
•ABILITIES:
Kirian is a Spellbreaker, and before that, he was a mage. He is skilled in arcane magic, but especially in “support” magic- counterspelling, shielding, spellstealing, and the like. He can conjure food and drink (mostly for himself because what is sharing).  He can mildly warp time to revert fresh injuries, give himself or others haste, and slow others.  He can also nullify magic.
•MEDICAL INFORMATION: Kirian is a Blood Elf, meaning his body ages much, much slower than a human’s. He is fairly healthy, all things considered, save for the occasional smoker’s cough.

And he’s missing most of his right leg. He has a prosthesis crafted out of a hard, relatively lightweight metal. It is enchanted, movement powered by a small arcane core. He suffers chronic pain that is generally worse on some days than others.

•OFFENSIVE SUBJECTS: Sensitive topics include death, undeath, politics, PHOENIXES AND FIRE MAGIC IN GENERAL, his homeland.

IC PERMISSIONS:
•MENTAL: Fine with it as far as knowing more about him (gaining things that would have been "common knowledge" in Azeroth) and picking up on any train of thought stuff in a tag. Anything else- please ask first.
•MIMICRY: Mimic is okay, but shapeshifting into him and causing problems is something I'd definitely want to plot out first.
•VIOLENCE: With permission and it being plotted out first.
•MAGIC: With permission and it being plotted out first.
•DEBATE: He’ll likely tell you you’re an idiot, but go for it!

timewalking: (Default)
Height: 6' 4"-ish

Build:
Thin, with more strength in his upper body than lower, appraching something near muscular, but lean.

Distinguishing Marks:
Red tattoos that cover his arms and legs, ending at the tops of his hands and feet.  Those that see him without gloves will see almost abstract scrollwork patterns, with arcane runes throughout.

Face: Long, straight nose.  Brows the curl up at the ends, and ears that curve inward toward his face.  Bright green eyes, usually surrounded by dark circles.

Clothes: Plain robes, upon robes, upon robes.  Dark colors preferred, with gold embroidery throughout.  Occasionally covered in black cat hair.  Well tailored to him.  Generally wears black gloves.  Carries a cane with him- round, gold knob and tip, purple-black wood shaft.  Uses it to walk.

Smells: Not much at all.  He dislikes perfumes and scents.  Generally, he smells clean and often of smoke.  When he is working with magic, those sensitive to it would be able to smell it on him for some time afterward.

Voice: Polite, slight accent.  Usually always sounds a bit bored.  His Thalassian is much better than any other language, and he will default to speaking this around other elves.  If you really want a voice actor for him, think Kirk Thornton or Crispin Freeman.  Yes, those who know the canon, he sounds a fair bit like Rommath/Thalen.

Mannerisms: Reserved, often taps his cane on the ground before walking.  It is easy to read him sometimes- just follow his eyes.  Generally frowns or close to it.  Very rarely smiles.
